Electronic Arts has created a new program called the Spore Creature Creator.  It is a tool to (duh) create creatures.  It’s actually kind of a cool program. The art style for the monsters is cartoony, but I think the idea is to make this a kids’ game of sorts.

I downloaded the free trial program yesterday and played with it a bit last night.  Since it’s a trial, a lot of the items to customize your monster are unavailable to use. That said, even with limited resources, I was able to create a couple cool little monsters.  But my favorite creation, by far, was my own version of an eye tyrant.  It was a little too cutesy, so a quick 5 minutes in GIMP, and I was able to remove the goofy grin and add some menace to his main eye.

All-in-all, it’s a pretty cool program, especially if you are like me and have all the drawing ability of the 5-year-old that this program is really for.
