Feel free to chat about your characters and stuff related to my upcoming game.
I will post basic background info about the world here once I have some time on my hands.

Putting together rough ideas about your characters beforehand is a good idea. We can adjust things later, but for now you can work with 10th level characters, so not quite paragon tier yet. Use 22 points for the pointbuy method to generate ability scores if you want to get that far (you will obviously get the level increases separately too).

Stuff outside of the PHB is to be approved item by item.

As already mentioned in the other thread, I would like to avoid using the blood mage paragon path, so if someone wants to make a wizard, I advice to look for the other options.

My suggestion for party composition is:
Leader
Controller
2 defenders
2 strikers

This is by no means mandatory. Just a guideline for something that should work pretty well.

I believe Talae already mentioned he wants to play a Warlock.

The Obsidian Fortress

Initial events

On the year 1385 DR a group of adventurers was tasked to set forth and investigate a portal that appeared in the dalelands, close to the ruins of Myth Drannor.
The portal was some kind of a rift in the time/space continuum and seemed to lead to another world entirely, but still resembling Toril. It was a stable portal and passable both ways.

The world on the other side of the portal was called Abeir. Compared to Toril, Abeir is a less civilised world and more connected to the primal elemental energies. Dragonborn and Genasi are native to Abeir.

The adventurers explored Abeir for some months and made friends among the local people who were adventurous enough to get to know the strange newcomers.

They formed an adventuring company that was supposed to traverse both worlds and bring knowledge of Abeir to Toril and vice versa.

Part of the initial group was going to return to Toril from Abeir around 6 months after the portal originally appeared. When they entered the portal, something strange happened. The portal begun to pulse with magical energies and exploded when the group was passing through it.

The adventurers found themselves stranded in the woods surrounding Shadowdale on Toril (this is some ways from the original location of the portal). After investigating and contacting the people in the Dalelands, they found that they had been missing for some 100 years. The original portal closed about 6 months after its appearance on Toril.

It was now the spring of 1481DR, first three-day of Ches. Strange things have happened during the last 100 years and the adventurers decided to find out about the recent events and investigate the original site of the portal that began their journey. Nothing remained in the woods surrounding Myth Drannor. The magical upheaval of the spellplague had erased any sign of the portal.

The adventurers decided to split into smaller groups and learn about the areas surrounding the Dalelands and also find some of their earlier comrades (Elves and dwarves survived the 100 years of their absence).
Some found new adventures and explored close-by ruins and other areas of interest. Before splitting they agreed to have a meeting exactly 6 months from their return in the town of Shadowdale. The day they agreed on is on the day of high harvestide holiday, between the months of Eleasis and Eleint, the 8th and 9th months of the year.

The campaign starts when the characters return to Shadowdale from their recent adventures. Not all of them made it back.

OOC:
The party consists of those adventurers who meet in Shadowdale. There are a few others there (around 10 of you in total). Let’s keep the others a bit “murky” so that your possible future characters can be from among them.

The character’s know about as much general information as the FR player’s guide tells you. The spellplague has not affected the immediate surroundings too much.

Short description about Shadowdale is about to follow in the next post.

Feel free to invent “filler” events for the parts of your adventures after your departure to Abeir and what happened between then and now.

EDIT: Added some dates in above text.

Map of the surroundings of Shadowdale is here:
It is the 29th of Tarsakh in the year 1385 DR, blue flames are erupting in the sky all over the heavens and all who had the touch of Magic hear a scream of unlife as Mystra is taken from the world.

I want to know what you were like before this cataclysmic event. Where you lived, how you lived, what you did, who you knew. Due to the events of the Spellplauge that are now just taking effect you could have been a level 20 wizard with all the powers in the world, or a lonely level 1 rouge living in the slums of Skyclave, now everyone is on the same level.

When creating a character, as I have said a few times now, I want story to be the most important part, but that dosn’t mean you can’t have fun with the class system and old magic system. You may have once been a high wizard, now in your insanity and need you consulted a demon to give you strength you never had when you were a mage. All of this is up to you, so let your imagination run with it.

In character creation think of where you came from and where you were at the time of the Spellplague. This thread is meant for you to find others you may have started journeying with so ask around and see if you can web back stories together. Also if you have a group you are happy with tell me, we can set up your own thread and get you one step closer to playing.

Just so you know I have never really played a Forgotten Realms campaign. If your a die hard fan and you have a great idea just walk me through it and tell me how it works in with the new setting, because I wont see it on my own. When picking from where you came from use the FR players guide and give yourself the bonus Regional Benefit. This doesn’t mean you were in your own nation when the spellplauge hit, just that you are from there.

Last thing, you’ll be using 22 point bye and you start at level 1. All books, dragon and dungoin can be used, just give me good sitatoin so I know were to look to read about it. Also as of right now no house rules, however if you wish to play a druid or other class we can work on changing those. Post stats wherever you want, but I want secrecy to be just an other part of the game, so don’t think you have to tell the truth to anyone other then me. The people you travail with in the beginning of the game may just turn out to be enemies later down the road, and you don’t want them to know to much about you. That said, you can just send me your stats through private messages or through email. Those you journey with to begin with need to only know what you look like and what you are waring.

Hopefully reading this made you excited about playing, any questions just post here or send me a message.

Ok, so here is where our new chat about the game goes. Make sure that you have read the stuff I have posted over at the 4E-PbP topic as far as how I want things to go and all that. I figure I will post a brief summary of the world here to help with backgrounds. Anything I don’t post and you want to know about feel free to ask, I’ll be happy to tell you as long as it doesn’t provide any spoilers And any suggestions you have put those on here too please, I can always use help

Lost Islands

The Lost Islands are a chain of islands an unknown distance from any other large continents. They consist of one large main island surrounded on all sides by many smaller islands, some close enough to walk to over sand bars or swim to, and others still far enough that they can only be reached by boat or magic. The large island is not massive, knowledgeable inhabitants of the island can cross from one side to the other in almost a week. Not all of the islands are known to everyone on the island, some are homes for people, some are hide-aways for treasures that inhabitants want to keep safe, and others still have never had a foot on them.
The large central island, named The Lost Island and what the chain is named for, is sprinkled with villages and towns all around, none very isolated and usually within a days travel from others. There are no large ruling groups or monarchies, but a few of the more prosperous citizens do have large landholdings and oversized houses. Some of the villages are small, consisting of maybe a dozen average or large families that work on farms or other basic crafts. Some of the towns (usually around the large prosperous citizens lands) have quite a large population with maybe 50-60 families and every kind of shop that an adventurer could need. There is not much of a class system on the island. No one is poor, and the homeless are the people who choose to live outdoors in the wild and be close to nature. Most families are well off, and only a small few are above the rest in wealth and have the large landholdings.
The island is racially diverse, with all the races accepting each others presence readily. There is no racial tension because as far back as everyone can remember, all the races have lived together in harmony. No one knows how everyone came to live on the island or much of it’s history, but no one is terribly interested or worried except for the some of the knowledge seeking scholars and students. Adventurers are not considered common but aren’t scarce, and due to the small size of the main island and the surrounding islands most know readily where they could find one if they needed to(though it might take a few days to get word.)
There is not too much combat on the island, mostly just other troublesome monsters attacking travelers, or the occasional small raid by a larger more organized force.

As far as names of towns and stuff go I don’t really have much yet, so if in everyones background they could provide maybe a town, location of it (on the main island or one of the smaller islands), size, maybe close towns. I figured this will leave backgrounds very open so that no ones ideas will be stifled if they already have some ideas. So pretty much, just tell me about your character, his hometown (possibly collaborate and have 2 or more characters from the same town,) and anything else you want to throw in there. Feel free to describe geography and climate if you want. I just think everyone will have a lot more fun if we play in something we made as a group, maybe feel more involved if you think your visiting the hometown you made for you character. You can even make up your own freakin island! Ha ha so get as involved as you want to and help me flesh out this world. And check the IC when I post in soon so that you can see how I put everyone coming together.

So talk away

Oh and please keep all questions and chatter in this topic, only characters and the game (which hasn’t started yet so no posting there yet) go in the other threads. Don’t want the others to get cluttered with things.

Currently in one of the largest towns, Endora, centrally located on the island our band of adventurers is a gathering of the elite of the schools, training halls, the self-taught, and other groups brought together to protect the island. They have been called together for the purpose of a small crisis that seems to be spreading over the island. The islanders are worried about it becoming a larger problem and want to act quickly to put an end to it.
Children around the island have been disappearing from villages and towns in small groups all around the main island and some from the surrounding islands. The occasional child or caravan missing is not uncommon with the presence of monsters on the island but this seems too widespread and close together to just be coincidence. So instead of just sending adventurers out individually it was decided to bring in the best to go as a group and find what is happening. This party is consisted of those selected elite and have been summoned to the town to see what they can do to help.
You are in the middle of the town, around you are homes and shops, and you can hear the noisy (but not so much it makes it hard to speak) bustle of townsfolk going about daily business. You see some spot and point to neighbors and friends as they realize that this is the group brought to solve this mystery. You have an audience with one of the larger landowners on the island, Jaxus Ridale, who has 3 of his own children missing. You are a short walk into the town, and can see past the main market street the rather large and luxurious looking home of Jaxus. What will you do?

OOC: Everyone consider yourselves introduced and equipped and ready to go right now. You have already gathered supplies and things like that. And Jaxus has offered to put you all up in his house seeing as how he called the band together, free of charge.

Hey guys, so its time to talk shop for characters. All you really need to put here is what class you are and were you are at the time of the spellplague just so you can find others to start the game with.

Character building is 22 point bye and all books allowed, levle 1 and 100gp. Sorry I didn’t have that up earlier.

Also, with your character sheet, have all powers stated out please. Leaving weapon damage blank if you attack with several weapons is fine as long as you have the bonus you get with each weapon and say somewhere on your character sheet what weapon damage your weapons do. So instead of Wis VS AC, I need to know what the bonus you get to hit and when it says + your Cha, I need to know what your Cha is. This just takes some work out of my hands so that I can just get all your character sheets into my spread sheets and we can play faster.

This is in the OOC thread but I thought I would show this off cause I do want it as part of the character sheet.

House rules are:
Downtime for leveling. So even though you may have enough XP to level you will have to rest and reflect to gain any of that power. Try to stay in flavor with this, remembering story as the key element.

Also it will be hard to raise people because the PC’s will most likely be the only really high level characters, so most deaths will be true deaths. If you want to hunt down a cleric that is powerful enough to heal you most likely will eventually be able to do it, but it will be hard.

Other then that no other house rules I can think of. If you have any just give me a shout and I will think about them.

Erais suffered an OA bite, part of the bite’s effect is 5 ongoing acid damage. Evidently dragons no brushy-brushy the teeth.:( Guess I should have added some flavor text the effect of “as the dragon clamps down on Erias, the cleric feels the burning of the lizards deadly acid inflame and exasperate his wounds.” but posting from work makes me lazy lest my boss catch me.

And good idea on starting another OOC. I will start another IC as soon as we are done with this combat which should be a rnd or 2.

"DRAGON!!!” Riardon shouts as he flees. “Know this, and know it well. I was unprepared for one as such as you and it showed. My companions were looking for KOBOLDS, not DRAGONS. You are still YOUNG for your RACE. Like MYSELF, you have many DECADES and even CENTURIES to look forward to. IF you are not KILLED. I was hired to STOP the RAIDING on the surrounding VILLAGES. If you continue to have your SERVANTS raid these villages, I WILL BE BACK and I will be PREPARED FOR YOU. I will KEEP COMING until you are DEAD. Although you are STRONG and POWERFUL, even YOU can DIE.”

“Your words are pretty,” the dragon bellows after the fleeing adventurers, specifically Riardon, “but know this, when you come agains Nightscale you are coming to meet your DOOM. Awe and abasement or fear and fight are your only options little men, I look forward to our next meeting cowards!”

As he says this, Erais walks amongst the rest of his companions, offering a soothing hand to help bind wounds and set bones out of place.
Healing Word to any and all who need it, as often as necessary (or we are allowed by circumstance) to restore the group to full health (within 2 hp of full). Start with myself, then Kathra...then the rest in no particular order, save that those who are bloodied come first. Then assess how many surges each of us, in turn, still have left. Heal check to determine if anyone isn’t up to full health, and (if possible) if it is because they are out of surges for the day, or if they’re refusing the healing.
