So, Steve Kenson, the mastermind behind Mutants and Masterminds, has created a new supers RPG for Adamant Entertainment called Icons.

It seems to me, in my fairly recent predilection for rules-light systems, to be a really fun, easy system to game in. I don’t have the disposable income yet (adjuncts get paid in two lump sums at the midterm and finals, effectively), but it’s something that interests me.

Plus, I just think it’s kind of cool to see one game designer and his two radically different takes on the genre. Anyone else hear about this or interested in it? Jackelope King?

So as I mentioned in another thread, I’m working on making my own dungeon crawling game to both introduce my four-year-old daughter to gaming and to help teach some math and reading skills to her. I’ll be posting my initial rules builds and graphic design ideas here. The rules are pretty close to the old Dungeon! game, which I didn’t realize until I had finished writing out my basic ideas. Anyway, below is a sample card idea just to give an idea. I’m looking for free and public domain art, but I haven’t found a whole lot yet, so I’m just using a picture I found on the internet for a placeholder.

And thanks to Jacob Lewis for a working title. DungeonLand! is a much better title.

So, I recently found a nice online game called “the far wilds”.
It is basically a trading card game with a twist.

You have a deck, with buildings, creatures and spells.
You play your opponent on a hex grid map.
So, if you summon a creature, you also have to move it and fight other creatures on the map.

The resource system is managed with buildings. You have to build buildings near “flux wells” to capture them and each gives you the equivalent of mana each round, that is used for casting things.

You also need buildings to gain “domain” which is the color code of the game (so a graveyard gives you “black” domain, and cards require you to have X domain to cast them in addition to spending flux.

Winning happens by earning glory, which is gained by having more flux wells under you control than the opponent has (2 glory per round if you have more, 20 glory to win). Each player starts with one well under their control, and the map has 5 usually.

So far, I enjoyed playing with the free starter cards. You also can gain “phantom” cards even when playing the computer. These cards cannot be traded, but instead you only have them for a limited duration (I guess this is meant to reward active play).

There are some ways to get gold (currency for the game) without actually paying any real money. So, basically one could build good decks and earn cards without actually investing in the game.

OK, enough of advertising… I usually don’t plug games like this, but I really would enjoy playing some n00bies, since I have played like 10 games so far and the player base seems to be quite full of veteran players.

My nick there is also “Rothe”.

So, my kids saw the 360 version of Magic and I downloaded it. I got to playing it and remembered that I liked it. So, for Christmas I got them some decks to play around with. One for each color. They picked it up pretty good.

But somethings I have noticed that have changed pretty much… What is “cycling”? And what is the deal with the two way cards?

Anyways, who else still plays this?

So our group is going to take a break from 4e for a little bit and we are exploring other options.

We have pretty much decided on Alpha Omega, and I’m wondering if anyone on DA has had any experience with it and what they thought.

I know the system uses quite a bit of dice and we are OK with that.

I am playing a WWII RECON campaign,it will just be me/GM,Brad,his stepson(who is 9),and hopefully a good player of our D&D games,Rick.
They will run 2 characters a piece..I know that’s alot on a 9 year old first timer...so I will let him run 1 character, and I will run the other.
So far the character classes are..
1.Sniper/Demo
2.Medic/Pigman

They are United States Marines who have just landed on Iwa Jima.
1st Mission:"Storming the beach”, two .30 caliber heavymachine gun nests are located on the cliffs overlooking the beach, there is a 50% chance of being hit.

PC(S) will have to roll a Night Fighting:Rapid Movement check% and then toss a grenade into the nests, will take at least (2)characters with high AG skill to do this.

After success, the Marines march through some jungle(Random Encounter check).
During break, a message comes over the radio, that there is a village which is really a Japanese base, that is having a shipment of supplies coming in and a shipment of Gold going out.

The camp will have just yer plain Jap soldiers, maybe 2 officers, and maybe a sniper.
I might put snipers in the trees.
there is also a U.S. Tank with a Japanese Pilot, who is protecting the Gold.

So I will keep ya posted of the groups progress.
