My Wailing is the Autumn Wind

My wailing is the autumn wind, spilt water
when it fell.  Here everything is cool,
unhidden in the rains of May.
There is no sign in the cicada’s cry.
A crow is perched on a bare branch
quite unaware of last night’s storm.
I have not lain with beauty all my life
where ferns fell away in the broken air
of the immigrant’s dream come too true.
The trees along the river are what I see,
where the red hills, dotted with piñon,
declaim their dying.  To darken nature
and be summer woods in leaves no
steps had trodden black, to stay our
minds on and be staid for him to conquer.
Because I weep in the tombed
studio, I demand that the human race
be said to weep when weather howls
with tongues that talk all tongues.

Shhh...my common sense is tingling.
Where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can’t, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can.-President Elect Barack Obama

This one is interesting… but it could use a few more lines for elaboration. Although that may be difficult, if it’s a true cento.

I’m curious, what were your sources for this?

"So are you trying to convince me that you’re not a pervert?”
“What?! Hell no! Of course I’m a pervert!”

It’s a true cento.

The first six lines are from various Haiku, all by Basho.  The next two lines are Ferlinghetti, then a line by Bukowski, two by Ginsberg, four by Frost, a Ginsberg, a Kerouac, and the last two are Dylan Thomas.

Adding a few more lines would break the cento, but I got similar feedback in my workshop.  I’ve worked on it and tried other combinations to lengthen it and haven’t found anything that rang true in the same way as the lines already there.  So I keep coming back to my original.
