So I have read over the new Warforged in 4th and I like them so far, except for one small problem, they are healed like all other characters.  Now this would be fine if living construct didn’t give them a huge bonus on not being able to die easily.  I understand someone can just beat a Warforges body when they drop to kill them, but I find that the fact that they can heal normally and don’t need to worry about death saving throws is a bit broken.

So I’m wondering if anyone has seen a fix for this.  I was thinking a Warforged can only use their healing surges on their own, such as a second wind once an encounter and being able to use them during an extended rest, but no one can make them use a healing surge, nor can anyone heal them by using their own (lay on hands).

Dose this sound alright?  Has anyone seen a Warforged in play and thought that the rules as written are not broken?

Thanks

Healing is not necessarily about closing wounds. It was not even in 3.5e, but in 4e it is even clearer than that.

Hit points are an abstract way to describe the characters willpower and endurance. A hit in combat is not necessary a wound even if it is from a sword.

The healing surge mechanic is also a sign of this. The characters can quickly regain their stamina when the fight is over.

Healing is about restoring the willingness to fight and making the characters recover faster than they could on their own.

I think andrewk’s problem is that in 3E warforged didn’t heal the same as other creatures.  Now they heal just like any other critter.  While I liked the flavor of the differences in 3E, the bookkeeping for the two types of healing got a little out of whack.

The bookkeeping was a little excessive in 3.5 for Warforged. I also think that the regular healing is in-line power wise with all of the ramped up races we have now.
