This will be both the ooc and any visitor comments for the Saga of Epoch’s superhero game which I will be running.
Current Roster:
zachol
Talae
Black Plague
Lune
The game will begin at first power level (meaning 15 character points) and each encounter whether it be a terrain hazard (going into a firey building) or a roleplaying encounter (telling the crack dealer to change his ways) or a violent encounter (beating the snot out of the BBEG) you will gain one character point. These character points can be used immediately or saved up over time. Once every character gains 15 character points the power level of the game will increase by one.
The game will be set in the year 2010 in the small town of Aberdeen, Idaho. The locale will change from varied places such as Salt Lake City, New York City, Mexico City, Shanghai, Madrid, Anchorage among others.
Can you provide a little background on Aberdeen? Not all of us are from Idaho.
Oh, and I’m wanting to make a doctor who can’t be killed by diseases or posions (Immunity FX for both). However, I don’t want it to be that he isn’t effected by them, but rather than his body is capable of fighting them off perfectly (i.e. he may get sick, but he’ll always recover). Would that qualify as a flaw or a drawback for that FX?
Also, what are the available origins for super powers? Are they all to be random mutations (ala Heroes) or are others (like advanced/alien technology, magic, etc.) available as well.
Magic, I want to say no but if something’s good I’ll review it.
Advanced Tech yes.
Alien...no for now, but may open up in a chapter or two.
Aberdeen, think truckstop on the way to Pocatello (which is more modernish...ie they have more than one Wal-mart and Gamestops etc.). It’s located on I86 a little southeast of Pocatello and just past the Utah/Idaho border line. For this campaign Aberdeen has one Wal-mart, many diesel engine truck stops, and a couple cafe’s, a elementary school, and some houses along with a railroad stop and thats pretty much it. It is north of the American Falls Reservoirs as well. Climate is cold in the winter, hot in the summer with pretty much no fall or spring to speak of. It either starts snowing or it starts being extremely hot.
I would say that would be an FX Flaw since your still affected by everything you just fight it off well (ie it cuts the power by about half since your not totally immune).
EDIT: Also, you deserve some form of generic cookie for being the first person to post here.
Well, I was originally thinking of making Razor Charlie to see how he works in the system. But I’m starting to have second thoughts about it for a couple reasons:
1. I don’t know how well he would be represented in a system like this.
2. I dunno how well he will fit into this sorta campaign. He isn’t much of a team player type, more of a silent guy who comes out only to kick (Gibbering Mouther Ate Your Word!) type.
3. I might get a hankerin to play an actual superhero type.
Is there an FX that grants an alternate form type thing. Al la the Hulk, Morbius, etc? Or could I have all of my powers tied to an alternate form as a sort of flaw or drawback?
For alien could I have that be his origin but not know about it? Or genetic experimentation but done by aliens? Something to that effect? What about magic if it is given via a relic kinda like Juggernaut? Or if not magic but some sort of mystic energy type thing like Green Lantern’s ring?
For alternative form you could go a couple different ways:
1)You could have some drawbacks (ie Involuntary Transformation, ala Hulk, One-Way Transformation, Full Power) that would allow you to get some more character points so you could do something like the following:
i) Have the Morph FX, Super Strength FX, and Growth FX ala Hulk, maybe getting the Uncontrolled Flaw for Super Strength or Action drawback for Growth.
(I’m at school right now and can’t think very well so this is only a brief explination of what you could do with this concept, I’ll go into more detail later if wanted.)
That alien origin would be good. Genetic experiments (I was abuducted! type stuff) good. Relic and mystic energy good.

Depending on how hot “extremely hot” is this sounds like my ideal weather.
Eh, Southern Utah is much hotter (St. George which is near the Nevada border can get up to 110 degrees) than Idaho but it’s still pretty warm for the average muchacho. Like, it can get to the mid 90’s on a hot day but mostly its just around 83-86 all the time in summer (which is pretty much Late March-August).
Okay, here is my concept. He was originally conceived of for a PL 10 M&M game but I never got really all that far in making him.
FLEA
Jilal al-Tikriti al-Adin is a US Foreign Service Officer for the State Department. He reports to the US Ambassador to the Provisional Iraqi Government and handles mundanities such as staff meetings, paperwork, speech-writing, and low level negotiation. At the time al-Adin was tapped to head to Iraq, the US was secretly testing out a new injection intended to help with foreign surveillance and intelligence gathering. A new organization, ostensibly subordinate to the State Department but really working for Homeland Security, was founded after successful test runs in Afghanistan and North Korea. Dubbed INSECT, or the Incognito Network for Surveillance, Espionage and Covert Tactics, went to work in late 2006. In keeping with the “bug” nomenclature of old generation wire-taps, this network also passed on invertebrate names for its field agents. There were several kinds on the ground and around, both internal and external to the US. Those INSECT agents assigned to foreign embassies or the United Nations were called FLEAs, or Foreign Liaison Espionage Agents, reflecting both their duties to the State and Homeland Security Departments.
The injection given to FLEAs had various secondary side effects depending on the injectees’ own natural mutations and reactions, but there was one reaction in common, the very reason for the development of the serum. This ability was to shrink oneself such that one could actually be the proverbial fly on the wall. Immune system response typically limited this ability to the size of the average house flea, but not in al-Adin’s body. He is able to shrink to subatomic size and ride the flow of electrons through data streams. In addition, while most of his colleagues also had their strength limited to their relative sizes, Jilal was actually able to keep his true size strength. As a trained combat vet, he could easily bench press 300 lbs while at his normal size, as could his comrades. But the difference lay in the fact that Jilal could bench press the same 300 lbs even while shrunk to subatomic levels.
And a pleasure to have you, Merc. I still haven’t decided what kinda character I’m playing. I have been reading through d20a and considering different ideas.
Hmm… Hey Cameron, you want to work things out so that our character’s back stories intertwine at some points? I’m making a doctor and reading your back story has inspired me to think about the possibility of an Army or Navy doctor. The two characters could have been posted to Iraq during similar time frames and had their paths cross.

Sounds good to me.
Oh, and why is your character in Idaho now?
Hadn’t got that far yet. Was just posting the concept and working on the FX, but d20advanced wiki isn’t working for me right now for some reason. There are some strategic bases in the area. I’ll see if I can’t find a legitimate one to base out of.
