So in the adventure some of the monsters wear a necklace that ... well, just read for yourself:

The cultists sent out from the Pillars of Night wear a rough silver talisman set with a chip of blood-red stone. This is a fragment of the Eye of Naarash, and cultists who wear the talisman are bound to the demon’s service. Through the talismans, Naarash feeds on the dark energy of the cultists’ murderous acts. This connection grants temple cultists wearing the talisman 1 action point.
When a cultist dies, the stone dissolves into blood-red mist. PCs searching slain cultists find them wearing talismans with an empty space where a stone should be set. Cultists who are captured alive have intact talismans, but removing a talisman automatically slays a cultist, the stone dissolving as a result. (Captured cultists typically kill themselves by tearing their talismans off, preventing torture and
interrogation.)

So the PCs discover this fact and the mage gets the idea to use mage hand to rip off the talisman.  I ruled that it would be a standard attack action, 1/2 mage’s level + dex vs. reflex.  Mage hand can move up to 20 pounds.

The question is do you think that 20 pounds of “force” is enough to break a neck chain.  I mean the cultists often ‘rip them off’ themselves, so these are not iron collars or
reinforced steel…

What ya think?

Only thing that isn’t consistant with Wiz powers is the Dex instead of Int, but I understand why you chose Dex.  The only thing I see is that by using Dex the Wiz will probably fail more often at his attack.

actually int does make more sense since magic missile et. al are int based.  good call.
