Does a Two Weapon Ranger get to use Twin Strike for both Melee and Ranged attacks?
If so, doesn’t this give an advantage to Two Weapon Rangers over Archer Rangers?

As long as I’m assuming correctly and you don’t mean ‘at the same time’ then yes twin strike can be used with either melee or ranged weapons.

I’m not sure it gives an ‘advantage’ - or perhaps I’m not seeing why you think it is an advantage.

Yes they can, just like an archery ranger can use it for both.

All rangers can two weapon fight, because all classes can use two weapons.  Rangers just have powers that specifically need two weapons to use such as twin strike.

The benefit of the two weapon fighting ranger is that he gets toughness and allowed to use one handed weapons in his off hand as if they were off hand.

The archery ranger gets defensive mobility. I really think prime shot should have been archery style only to help beef up this choice.

So the archer can pick up his longsword and shortsword and use Twin strike with melee weapons, but the two weapon ranger can do it with two longswords.

Nothing stops the archery guy from doing both, except typically the melee focused one has a stronger str than dex and the archery one has a stronger dex than str.  Both can use which version of the power they want depending on the situation.  Otherwise the archery character would be very weak compared to the melee ranger if left at close range.

The styles are just there to provide a little flavor and help you decide what attacks to focus on.

You assume right. I’m dense, but not that dense.

Thank you. You answered my question perfectly. I see now that my problem was in misunderstanding the part about “offhand weapons”.

Anyone can fight with two weapons- check.

Archer Rangers who take Twin Strike can(and should) use two weapons (one with the off-hand property) in order to use that Power in melee, as opposed to a sword and shield or two handed weapon- got it.

Thanks again to both of you!

The two weapon option is indeed guaranteed to be better until paragon levels. You get a feat (toughness) and the special off-hand benefit. The archery nets only one feat (defensive mobility).

The trick is that you need the correct choice for the ranger archery paragon path. If you picked the twf option at 1st level, you cannot qualify for most of the archery paragon paths at all. That is the reason why someone might take the archery option.

Silly design in my opinion though. I don’t like it, because I play many limited level scale games that might never get to paragon levels and that means the twf option is always the stronger one.

And absolutely none taken. For some reason the smiley didn’t work when I posted that. Here’s an extra to make up for it.  cheese  grin

For an example of just how dense I can be, see my thread on Human Warlocks.  red face

Seriously, you guys are some of the nicest and most patient I’ve met online. Both of these questions were ones posed by my players, which I simply could not find an answer for. I tried looking for FAQ’s and such, but no luck. So I turned to you guys and you helped me right out.

I thank you, and my players thank you.
