I had a question, do maps, pictures, etc. count toward the 1-3 page limit?
I think rule #1 sums this up (with emphasis on the relevant part:
1)Create an encounter 1-3 pages in length. There’s no real limit to the length per se, but it should qualify as a single encounter

Can a single encounter involve more than one monster/NPC?

It’s entirely possible.

So this is actually a fluff contest? Nice, I might be in. Would a place (haunted house, abandoned mines, etc) count as an encounter?

An “encounter” is subjective and I don’t know how to describe it any better than I already have. I recommend that you just do your best and submit your entry and see what the judges (everyone) thinks.

In a way, yes a fluff contest. But only in that stat blocks and mechanics should be left open. Seriously, take a look at the free adventures that come out of Wizards or whatnot. Ultimately, it should look something like one encounter from one of those minus the actual mechanics.

OK, I’m in.
I sent in a couple of things over the weekend (although I’ve not yet received a notice that they have been received yet).
I’m glad I found this site and this chance to get a few ideas down on paper that weren’t working anywhere else.

Hmmm.
OK, I’ve resent the pdf encounters. I hope they get there this time.
Thanks for letting me know they didn’t that first time.

Are the actual contest entrys themselves to have our actual names/username in the text, or excluded from it?

Right, I’m in. I sent the first encounter of my beloved Fairy Tales campaign. Wrote on word, then cut corners and saved it in rtf. Hope that’s fine.

Shhh...my common sense is tingling.

Can we write save DCs?
No rules. Save DCs make assumptions about the game mechanics which we don’t know yet.

Yep.
No mechanics whatsoever, more or less, should be the rule to go by. After 4e release, you can go back and put the mechanics in.
