Yes but I hit a snag with my plans for him. I found out that the control temperature a druid only spell is does anybody now how I can lower the temperature around my summoner?

Nope, there’s no way. I searched for ways to change temperature as a cleric and haven’t found any (not at levels 1-4 at least).

We’ve got a druid with snowcasting and icy calling if that’s what you are aiming at. wink

DM’s ruling:

The AOE of a Sleet Storm spell is reduced to Cold (if not already that temperature).  The description of the spell implies creating such a condition.

So if you don’t mind working blindly, this provides an alternate means for Sorc/Wiz (and Clerics with the Cold domain as per Frostburn) to lower the temperature of the battlefield.

At higher levels (and in larger areas), the 5th level Blizzard spell from the Winter domain would do likewise.

If all else fails, try to get the choice of setting.  The Open Field is cold at night, and the Arctic Tundra is eitehr cold or very cold.

Sorry about the wrong square choices and thank you for adjusting them. I indeed forgot about the squares being large when posting my choices and I also seem to keep forgetting to count diagonals correctly.

I leave tonight, so hopefully I can get a few rounds posted by then.

Ugh, not much luck with the dice so far, Nonamazing. I thought there was such a thing as beginner’s luck?

Well they don’t really have a very good chance to hit, but they do have a lot of hit points for level one creatures! Add in the fact that I only got one dog out of that last spell and he is certainly still in the game.

Regardless of how the match is going I am enjoying the conversation. It is actually quite a bit different for me to be arguing from the “naive true believer” point of view. Usually I run wizards, who would probably have ideas similar to Sulaus.

Oh, I’ve been goofing up all over the place, making all sort of errors.  I’d need an awful lot of beginner’s luck to make up for my general lack of skills. smile I probably won’t win this match, but I didn’t expect to--I’m just trying to learn the ropes and get a feel for how things operate.  Also, I’m having a lot of fun playing the character.

By the way, Andorax, I’m sorry about my most recent error, regarding the summon monster 3.  I knew the way the rules were supposed to work, I just made a mistake.  I wasn’t thinking clearly.  I apologize, and have edited my post to reflect a correct choice (anarchic boar to square B3).

Yes, I’m having a lot of fun too.  And that’s the point of all this after all, right?

Yay, fun! smile

Well, you are up against an experienced chess player here… seriously, it’s really hard not to make any errors during the first one or two matches. Even if one reads other matches and the rules closely, one is bound to miss things and not get tactics right entirely either.

I’m enjoying the read as well, btw. I have yet to have Queras pipe up during the conversation… he’ll probably do so ‘this weekend’. wink

By the way, I feel as if I ought to post a clarification as DM.

While “talking” is considered a free action, I would like to point out that some of the lengthy speeches that have been posted go well beyond what anyone could say in six seconds, even if they gave it their full, undivided attention...especially embellished with some of the theatrics Sulaus has been providing.

HOWEVER, I have no intention of actually taking this into account or penalizing posters in ANY WAY for this.  As far as I’m concerned, it’s some of the best parts of the entertainment that this game provides.  I wish I could provide more atmosphere myself, but my time is limited, so I’m trying to just get the rounds themselves moderated.

PLEASE...keep doing what you’re doing.  I just wanted to acknowledge that I know it’s stretching the rules, and am explicitly allowing it.

Thank you, sir.  I was aware that Sulaus’ long-winded speeches were well beyond what speech as a free action would allow in a round, even using the optional “villain monologue” rule.  I wasn’t quite sure how broach the subject, and I am glad to hear that you are okay with it.  I will make sure not to abuse the privilege. smile

Quick notice for you all.  I am on vacation next week, and thus will likely not be able to update Conjurer’s Chess.  I’ll catch up with you all on monday, July 28th (though I may check in from time to time).

Honeymoon was great. We went to Puerto Vallarta for 10 days. The late afternoon and evenings were filled with thunderstorms and the days were cloud for the most part, but we live in Arizona so the rain wasn’t too bad. We swam with dolphins and walked the beach a ton. Thanks for asking :D

Hey, sounds good, Talae! smile

Game off for this week though - as Andorax pointed out, he’s on vacation this week.

I think I’ll get back into the swing here as well next week. I’m spending most of my online time on the CR Challenge currently.
