Spore Assault by Benicus the PooAvenger

The Lichen Grotto encounter could be placed anywhere a DM could find imaginable. It might be as simple as a cave deep within the underdark to break from the monotony of random encounters, it might be a cave hidden in the wooded hills above a desolate farming community to give a sense of the cosmopolitan faces of evil and monsters in the world, or it might even be in the Shadowfell as a long undisturbed area not fit for human eyes. Whatever the location, the Lichen Grotto is sure to give a long session worth of fun and adventure.

I liked reading this one. I didn’t like the drow mentioned in it; their used too much. I didn’t understnad why the place was a “long and sordid” affair. that makes me think something happened more than just a raid and dewarves getting killed. It didn’t have enough detail in some places (why did mining stop?) that I wanted to know more about.

I think my group would like this one, but they might start getting funny about fighting mushrooms. it seems like a funny idea. Are these creatures going to be in the 4e Monster Manual or did you make them up?

Kinda cool. Have to try it out and see what my group does.

I made them up, but they are somewhat based on some monsters in the MM2. It’s supposed to be a little silly (it adds to the randomness of the encounter, so you can use it wherever and it breaks from the monotony of normal play), people stumble upon a bunch of mushroom people and think they’ll be all happy and receptive to the PC’s but instead they go batshit and begin multiplying >:).

The mining probably stopped because of all the fungal growth, it’s hard to mine through things when there are mushrooms that shriek like no other and some that shoot poison. Plus it’s hard to tell if it would flood again or not (without using divination or something which the Drow probably wouldn’t use for such a mundane task when they can just enslave some other population with half the effort).

Glad to have some comments, hope to hear how your group does! smile

Shhh...my common sense is tingling.
Where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can’t, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can.-President Elect Barack Obama
