I figured I’d start a forum topic to discuss the front page article by Chibby.

I said something in the reply to the news item about wanting to see a side-by-side comparison.  So I made one myself.

I like Chibbs’ version for being less-cluttered. The blurbs on the current version are really crammed in there, so it’s easy to overlook something you want to read. About the only changed I’d make layout-wise would be to add the RSS feed icon to the news entries, which is what I always look for when I find a news source I like enough.

Yeah, the feed icon is what I naturally look for too.  The good news is that FireFox puts the feed icon next to the URL for most sites, so I’m slowly starting to look there instead.

You’re a slacker!

@cameron - Oh. Nice side by side. Thanks. smile

@jk - Yeah. I could probably squeeze an rss feed icon in there. Not a bad idea at all.

Well done, sir! Reaction seems pretty positive. It would be cool if someone at WotC noticed your work, and hopefully it inspired them.

Great redesign, man. I hope some of the guys at WotC take heed and realize how effective good design is.  It looks like they really got the msg as far as the books go, so there’s hope for the website.

That’s pretty impressive. They should definitely take a hint from this and make some modifications.

Wow, after having posted a semi-critical comment on the post, seeing them side by side like this is very striking, and your design does look many times better. My original comment still stands, but only after acknowledging that smile
