I have a gestalt Psion(Egoist)/Monk in our Eberron campaign that is taking Death Blow (CAdv), and I am looking for ways to make an opponent helpless.  Down the road I am taking Freezing the Lifeblood, and we have an Artificer/Wizard, who uses a Wand of Hold Monster.  I cannot seem to find any Psion powers that render a foe helpless.  I have browsed through Expanded Psionics Handbook and Complete Psionic to no avail.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks.

Well Psionics has numerous powers capable of dazing, stunning and otherwise removing the enemies ability to fight effectively helplessness is not really among them. Ego Whip can eventually bring a foe down by dropping their CHA to 0 but that doesn’t help to much with death blow as the enemy would likely be down and out for an entire day.

The book hyperconscious has the psionic sleep power. Which each P.P of augmentation increases the number of HD it can effect by 1. (and spending 11 additional P.P will remove the HD limit). However the power lacks scaling DC, so the save won’t be that good at later levels.

I keep intending to start planing ahead but I keep putting it off.

I was hoping that I missed something along the way.  It will still be a nice combo along with Freezing the Lifeblood and Hold Monster, but it would be nice to have one more way to achieve helplessness.  It is especially cool, because I will get extra standard actions with Xerth Cenobite and some psion powers.

Scipio, have I mentioned lately that Esan scares me? Now I need to remember to work paralysis immune templates into all of my monsters, on top of everything else! Thanks a lot, man.

That is really funny.  Just wait until I get Fission, and then you will have 2 Esans to deal with.

If you can’t render an opponent helpless straight away, you could try rendering them vulnerable to being rendered helpless. A possibility is to go with stun, and then order an astral construct to grapple. They’ll win the pin almost immediately, and then you can use extract death blow.

A pinned opponent is immobile but not helpless.  How would that work?

Metamorphosis into something that can paralyze as an extraordinary special attack, such as a Chuul or a Carrion Crawler. You keep all your feats and class features while in another form, so you could still perform unarmed strikes unimpeded, even striking with the paralyzing tentacles since any part of your body can be used to deliver an unarmed attack.

Nah, that just means it’s time to switch to 4E.

Perhaps, but I’m holding on to my old monster manuals.
