Okay so Wizards posted a preview over swarms recently, in it it says that swarms have aura 1 that causes damage to any creature adjacent to the swarm.  My question is could you not perceivably do damage to a swarm by attacking its aura with an area power such as scorching burst, i only ask because it’s only logical that that damage be caused by the smaller creatures making up the swarm, or are these critters to hard to hit?

Think of it as if the creatures in the swarm move into the aura square when they attack the adjacent creature, and then immediately return to the rest of the swarm.  The swarming creatures aren’t in all of the aura squares at the same time all the time.

that makes sense, but the aura is always active which would imply that there always a few members in the aura area, could it not be possible to effect a swarm even in a minor way by hitting its aura? maybe i’ll just make it a house rule, although in the big picture just doing your damage bonus worth of damage wouldn’t really change the outcome much.

I’d see it as the swarm lashes out if anyone is in that square,
but if there is no one in the aura to be attacked no bugs in the aura

I keep intending to start planing ahead but I keep putting it off.
