I think that gaming companies (be it TSR, wizards, or what have you) purposefully make poor character sheets just to have players make their own sheets and create more excitement… I’ve been ‘live’ for three editions now and not one of them was released with a well designed sheet.

I agree that the official character sheets are typically inferior, I don’t think it’s intentional at all.  I think they just don’t put as much effort into it.

Also, the 3.5 official sheets on the WotC site are among my favorites.  I wish they were landscape, but otherwise, they’re really good.  The 4e ones are bad… very, very bad.

I’ve been remiss in updating mine, but now that I have my books, it will be loads easier.
